Total sales generated by the Senior/Nursing Care Business Domain increased 32.0% year on year, to ¥58.8 billion.
Most of this growth was attributable to the posting of sales from Bon Sejour Corporation, which became a subsidiary in March 2010, as well as an increase in the number of nursing homes operated by Benesse Style Care Co., Ltd., and a steady rise in the number of residents at these homes. As of the end of March 2011, the company had a total of 204 nursing homes in operation-32 more than in March 2010. By brand, the number of nursing homes in the Benesse network was as follows: Aria, 15; Clara (including care houses), 40; Granny & Granda, 77; Madoka, 43; and Bon Sejour, 29.
Operating income rose 35.5% to ¥4.0 billion, mainly atop earnings growth on higher sales from Benesse Style Care Co., Ltd., and the consolidation of Bon Sejour Corporation.
