BerlitzEstablishment of the Berlitz Educational Foundation for Children

In 2006, Berlitz Germany established The Berlitz Educational Foundation for Children. The foundation provides educational opportunities for children who live in areas lacking teachers and schools.

In cooperation with Plan International, an international development organization, the company supports construction of new schools to serve children in Kenya. In addition to providing desks, chairs and other materials, the company conducts a two-year training program for teachers to help improve the quality of education. In Romania, meanwhile, the company cooperates with Hope For the Children International (HCI) to fund the construction of children's centers for homeless children, schools, and training centers where youngsters can learn technical skills that will help them get jobs.

Benesse CorporationSupport for Gao Village in Vietnam

Enrollees in Benesse Corporation’s Shinkenzemi Elementary School Courses can donate*2 points earned by answering Red Pen Teacher questions to help support Gao Village*3, a village in the mountains of Vietnam that is home to a small tribe. As of June 2011, approximately 2,500 members each month were supporting Gao Village.

Children who are subscribers for the course can view Gao Village on the Benesse website, and see the daily lives of children there who are not economically privileged. This provides a valuable opportunity for children to reflect on the different regions of the world and helps to stimulate their interest. We see this as an important way of contributing to local communities as an education company.

*2 Donations are made through international NGO Plan Japan’s Gao Village Project

*3Gao Village is not its real name, but a nickname for the project
