CSR Philosophy

The basis of CSR at the Benesse Group is activities that raise social value, which begin from our corporate philosophy: Benesse=“Well-Being.” This involves engaging sincerely with stakeholders to provide solutions to social issues through our businesses. In this way, the Group is able to both generate favorable earnings and fulfill its corporate philosophy, seeking a good balance between social contributions, environmental preservation and economic success. Naturally, to continue fulfilling these goals, it is necessary for the Group to maintain healthy earnings and finances. But our business success also has social benefits, since this means that the Group will contribute more tax revenues and employ more workers. In this way, the Group fulfills its social responsibility as a corporate citizen.

The Group also strives to achieve sustainability in its business operations, doing its best to create a healthy social environment and to help people "live well" from the cradle into their old age. The Benesse Group's approach to CSR focuses mainly on efforts to stimulate local communities, through education, culture and the arts. In fiscal 2011, the Company formulated medium- to long-term CSR Achievement Targets for realizing its corporate philosophy. We are determined to ensure that the Group is valued by all stakeholders and respected by people around the world.
