Promoting the Benesse brand worldwide by developing safe, reliable educational products and toys
Hiroyuki Hayashi
Managing Director, Benesse Hong Kong Co., Ltd.
Benesse Hong Kong oversees the production of learning tools and toys used to support Benesse's Shinkenzemi and Kodomo Challenge correspondence courses, such as electronic learning aids used to practice arithmetic, and puppet figurines of the tiger cub Shimajiro, who is a main character in the Kodomo Challenge courses. Some 80% of these products are manufactured in China. Benesse Hong Kong prepares the detailed specifications based on requests from Benesse Corporation, places orders with factories in China, oversees production activity and quality control, and is also responsible for import/export procedures and paperwork.
In accordance with the Benesse Group's philosophy of "well-being", Benesse Hong Kong strictly ensures the safety and reliability of all of the products it handles. The Group's internal standards of product quality far exceed the safety standards set by government and industry organizations, and ensuring the reliability of these products is our top priority. These high standards are conveyed to all factories that handle our production, and while we strive to restrain costs, we are always seeking ways to improve the quality of our products.
At Benesse Hong Kong, we are trying to disseminate the Benesse brand name and image through 3-D media. In China, consumer concerns about the quality and reliability of products is even stronger than it is in Japan. In the future, we hope to contribute our knowhow of the local market to support Benesse's correspondence courses for preschool children in China, helping to boost awareness of the Benesse brand and enhance its quality image. In this way, we are contributing to the Group's goal of creating a truly global Benesse.
